“In ‘Specter,’ we’ve set a new record for wrecking cars.” The chief stuntman of the new James Bond film, Gary Powell, speaking Spectre to Event magazine, illustrates with this phrase the millions of euros burned in explosions and accidents during the filming of the fourth installment of the adventures of agent 007 starring Daniel Craig. And is that, with a budget of more than 272 million euros, ‘Specter’ is the most expensive film in the saga, but perhaps the most striking figure is those 32.65 million euros invested in luxury vehicles reduced to scrap during the filming.

Up to seven Aston Martin DB10s designed exclusively for the film were destroyed during filming. All of them, in a scene in which James Bond, at the wheel of one of these cars, is chased by a villain who drives a Jaguar-CX75 through the streets near the Vatican, the Colosseum and the Tiber River. “In Rome we have burned millions of pounds,” says Powell: “We were running through the Vatican at 110 km / h. And it took us a whole night to shoot four seconds of film.” In another particularly spectacular scene, a plane piloted by Bond, racing past an enemy’s Land Rover, crashes into a barn, in a sequence that did not use digital effects of any kind.
