Coco Disney and Pixar knew that Coco, their first animated film set in Mexico, would generate interest among the Mexican Coco public. What you may not have imagined is that it would break all box office records in the country.
Premiered in Mexico last October 27 –one month earlier than in the rest of the world–, Coco has raised 842 million pesos in just 20 days on the billboard. This equates to 17.9 million tickets sold. In dollars, this represents around US $ 44 million.
Coco thus surpassed the record set in Mexico by The Avengers (2012), which raised 827 million pesos during several months of exhibition.
